The Maison Guiette, also Les Peupliers or House Guiette, is a Belgian building built in 1926 by the French architect Le Corbusier. The building was built as a studio and residence for the Antwerp painter René Guiette. Guiette himself even called his house Les Peupliers.
The residence of 1927 located in the Populierenlaan in Antwerp is the only preserved building of Le Corbusier in Belgium. He designed for the World Expo 58 exhibition in Brussels in 1958 with Iannis Xenakis the Philips Pavilion, but this was demolished after the exhibition. The building of the house Guiette was supervised by architect Paul Smekens from 1926 to 1927. In 1983, the property was owned by fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester. Maison Guiette was restored from 1987 to 1988 after a period of vacancy under the leadership of Belgian architect Georges Baines who realized a volume expansion five years later in 1993.
The building was recognized as a monument of real estate on April 24, 1978, which was published in the Belgian Official Gazette on June 14, 1978. On July 17, 2016, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee added in its 40th session in Istanbul this property to the World Heritage List as part of a broader multinational registration of works by Le Corbusier, architectural work of Le Corbusier.
